Elementary
PEOPLE! That's the best part of the elementary school at International Gateway Academy! We have great teachers and students. Classes are small enough (22 or fewer) that students can get the individualized attention they need. There is a warm, family atmosphere in the classes. There is an emphasis on cross-cultural understanding and appreciation of each person's cultural background. In addition, we have a lot of fun during the year: field trips, the Pinewood Derby, the fall carnival, sports day, and house competitions.
At IGA, elementary encompasses grades Kindergarten through grade 5 (ages 5-10 or 11). Students spend most of their days with their primary classroom teacher, studying Reading and Writing (English), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Religious Education. Specials (taught by other teachers) include library, art, music, woodshop, Turkish, ESL and/or PE. Students have one or two recess periods a day.
In grades 3 and 5, students take the Stanford Achievement Test, administered in April of each year.
